Mariëlle Giesbertz elected as lead candidate for D66 Veldhoven

The members of D66 Veldhoven have elected Mariëlle Giesbertz as the lead candidate for the municipal elections on 18 March 2026 by an overwhelming majority. The vote took place over the past two weeks, during which members of D66 Veldhoven could cast their votes.

Giesbertz has been active within D66 since 2018. She began her political career as a councillor in Culemborg from 2002 to 2008. Since March 2018, she has been a councillor for D66 in Veldhoven. In the March 2022 elections, she was the lead candidate, and since May 2022, she has served as alderman, with responsibilities including energy, sustainability, climate adaptation, public space, citizen participation, and Eindhoven Airport. She is fifty-six years old, married, has two adult children and a dog, and lives in Veldhoven-Dorp.

Mark van Glabbeek, chair of D66 Brainport: “I am pleased with the members’ choice of Mariëlle as lead candidate. I have every confidence in a strong campaign with Mariëlle at the helm. In the last few years, she has proven to be an exceptionally strong alderman who gets a lot done.”

With the choice for Giesbertz, the members of D66 Veldhoven are opting for a passionate and results-oriented leader with a big heart for Veldhoven. She has proven her ability to achieve results on themes such as sustainability, climate adaptation, and the energy transition, and to collaborate effectively within the current coalition, with other parties in the city council, with the D66 group, and with her colleagues in the executive board.

Mariëlle: “I am extremely happy with the trust of the members. Together with them and all residents of Veldhoven, I will continue to work for a beautiful and green Veldhoven, with more affordable housing and pleasant, vibrant neighborhoods. A municipality where you feel at home. Together, we make the difference!”

The municipal elections will take place on 18 March 2026. The election programme will be established later this month during the general members’ meeting. The candidacy for those interested in a council seat is open until 7 October. On 3 December 2025, the rest of the candidate list will be announced.
