English translation
“As a council member, I want to help build a safe Utrecht where everyone gets the opportunities I got.”
From the age of two, Venita grew up in Overvecht in a bicultural family. Since 2016, Venita lives in Vleuten with her family, after almost 7 years of living in the UK, and works as an entrepreneur. Her childhood in Overvecht and life in the UK had a big influence on her decision to become politically active.
“Experiencing and seeing that equality of opportunity and safety cannot be taken for granted makes you recognize its importance and value all the more. You realize that as an individual and as a society you have to keep working on it, because a lack of it affects people’s lives and does a city like Utrecht short.”
Venita has a big heart for education in addition to the topics mentioned above. Education, teachers and lecturers, played a big role in her childhood. “When you end up at the highest secondary school level with a lower school level advice, you will be grateful for life for the teachers who supported you until you graduated,” she says.
“Our city has challenges: in terms of equity and safety, the COVID crisis, the climate crisis and the housing crisis. I stand for an ambitious city. A Utrecht where we set the bar high to face the problems that are there together with the inhabitants, so that every Utrecht citizen, like me, can feel at home in a city that is there for them and belongs to them.”
