Affordable, green energy from regional sources

No one in Leiden should be left out in the cold. The energy transition must be fair and feasible, with solutions that suit our city and region.

What D66 Leiden wants:

  • Insulation offensive for all Leiden residents.
Leiden is building on the national insulation offensive. Tenants and owner-occupiers will receive assistance with insulation and sustainability improvements to reduce their energy bills.
  • Smart and robust energy system.
Grid-aware charging stations, energy hubs, battery storage, and smart neighborhood solutions free up space on the overcrowded electricity grid. Leiden proactively designates locations for energy infrastructure.
  • Local energy communities.
Support for energy cooperatives and neighborhood initiatives that generate, store, and share energy together. Leiden residents benefit collectively from the proceeds.
  • Regional cooperation.
Leiden is working within Holland Rijnland on a robust, regional energy system so that we have sufficient reliable energy even in times of crisis.
  • Leiden natural gas-free in 2050.
Existing buildings are being prepared district by district for alternatives to natural gas, taking into account the resilience and pace of residents.
