Voting as an international
Haarlem has a growing English-speaking population. Many internationals can vote in the municipal election of March 18, but are not yet aware of their voting right.
As a Haarlemmer without Dutch nationality, you can vote in the local elections:
– if you are over 18 and a citizen of an EU country
– if you are over 18 and have lived in the Netherlands for over 5 years as a legal resident.
In both cases, you have the right to vote if you are registered with the municipality by January 31, 2022.
In order to vote, you need to bring both a valid ID and a voting card (“stempas”) to the polling station. You receive the voting card a few weeks before the election. We advise you to contact the municipality if you have not received one before March 4.
