Practical information about the municipal elections
On the 18h of March, citizens of Son en Breugel elect their 17 representatives for the Son en Breugel Municipal Council. The Municipal Council is the highest body of local government: the parliament of Son en Breugel, so to say.
Because Son en Breugel is your village too! The municipality plays an important role when it comes to housing, the quality of our schools, local traffic and transportation, leisure, cultural events, facilities for internationals.
Different political parties have varying views on how these topics should be prioritized. There are also large ideological differences on how parties view topics such as immigration, sustainability and the European Union. You have a say in this, your vote shapes the future of Son en Breugel.
You are eligible to vote when you are a resident of Son en Breugel and you meet at least one of the following criteria:
A) you are an EU-citizen, or
B) you have been a legal resident in the Netherlands for at least five consecutive years.
No, you do not need to register to vote.
Everyone eligible to vote will receive an invitation to cast their vote sent to their home address no later than fourteen days prior to election day. This invitation includes their poll card. The poll card allows the voter to cast their vote in the polling station of their choice within the municipality’s borders.

ALL polling stations will be open on March 18, 2026.
On this day you will be able to cast your vote at any of the open polling station within Son en Breugel, between 07:30 AM and 9:00 PM (21:00 hrs).
This can be a polling station near your home or workplace.
On your poll card (stempas), the address of a polling station near your home will be listed. This is only a suggestion, you can cast your vote at any open polling station within the Son en Breugel.
You need to bring 2 documents to be able to cast your vote:
– your poll card (stempas)
– a photo ID card (passport, driver’s license or ID card).
When you enter the polling station (stembureau), you will be met by a few polling station members. You hand them your poll card (stempas) and a valid photo ID. After a quick check you will receive your voting ballot which is a large paper document folded together. You will then be able to enter a voting booth where you can unfold the voting pass.
In the voting booth, a red pencil will be available which should be used to select one candidate of your choice. You cannot vote solely for a party, you must vote for a specific candidate within the party. After this you should fold the document back to its original shape (more or less) and proceed towards the ballot box, outside the voting booth, into which your folded voting pass should be placed. That’s it! You have casted your vote and you can leave the polling station.
Important:
You are required to enter the voting booth alone. The only exception is if you are with (young) children, they can go into the voting booth with you.
You may only select one candidate by marking the circle in front of their name. If you mark multiple candidates then your vote is invalid.
