Manifesto in English

Bunnik, Odijk, and Werkhoven are beautiful places to live. We need to act now, to keep it that way. We have to invest in affordable housing, vibrant villages and the best care and education for our children and youngsters.

Housing for everyone

  • D66 aims to build a total of 5,000 new homes by 2040 in Bunnik, Odijk, and Werkhoven. This is necessary for young people, starters, and the elderly.
  • New housing projects must consist of 30% social rent and 50% mid-market rent/affordable purchase.
  • We want to build more apartments and single-story homes for starters and the elderly.
  • We also want to make it easier to split large homes and share residences.

Healthy living, vibrant villages

  • D66 wants villages where residents can live healthily with space for walking and cycling.
  • We plan to invest in sports facilities in every village and maintain the sports fund.
  • The village centers of Bunnik and Odijk need to be further developed with shops, meeting spaces, and improved traffic safety.
  • A public toilet should be available in every village.
  • D66 also wants to create good swimming spots along the Kromme Rijn river.
  • The maximum speed in all village streets should be 30 km/h.
  • Streets near primary schools should be made as car-free as possible during drop-off and pick-up times.

Effective youth services, the best education

  • D66 wants children to grow up healthy and intends to use an additional 5% of the youth care budget annually for prevention and support in the ordinary life setting (e.g., at schools or via local support teams)
  • Schools should provide the best possible education, and D66 will help them acquire in-house expertise, such as teacher experts and learning specialists.
  • We propose a library point (‘biebpunt’) in all villages and a free library subscription for teachers to encourage reading.
  • The planned school in the new neighbourhood Kersenweide should be expanded from 400 to 500 places.

Thriving economy in sustainable villages

  • D66 stimulates entrepreneurs to adopt circular and sustainable business practices with subsidies.
  • A new business park near the A12 is planned to retain employment.
  • D66 wants to make sustainability attractive and feasible for everyone, including those with limited income.
  • We aim to accelerate the energy transition with solar panels on roofs and by investigating geothermal energy and other alternative sources.

Landscape and public areas

  • D66 wants to further develop and diversify the Kromme Rijn landscape.
  • We aim to strengthen recreation and tourism by making space for overnight stays and recreational functions at farm businesses.
  • Structural funding should be allocated for improved maintenance of the Jaagpad (towpath) along the Kromme Rijn.
  • D66 wants to invest structurally in the maintenance of green spaces, streets, and squares.

Feeling safe

  • D66 wants residents to feel safe to be themselves (regardless of origin, orientation, or religion).
  • D66 wants more controls in areas where drug nuisance is experienced (sometimes near sports facilities).
  • The municipality must work with partners to build resilience against organized crime.

Looking out for each other

  • D66 wants to greatly simplify income support for people with limited income.
  • They want the municipal declaration fund to be automatically disbursed to known clients.
  • D66 wants to facilitate and support the network of social organizations, such as Bunnik Samen.
  • A handyman team (‘klusteam’) will be established to help residents with small tasks in and around the house.

Reliable government, involved citizens

  • The municipality must be reliable, transparent, and easily accessible.
  • D66 wants to actively involve citizens in the governance.
  • The D66 faction will organize a quarterly public faction meeting where residents can join.
  • The starting point is that the total municipal taxes will remain the same.
