Drie voormalige langstraatgemeenten in 1997 samengevoegd tot \u00e9\u00e9n. Ik hecht veel (historische) waarde aan de Langstraat, ik ben zelf geboren en getogen in Raamsdonksveer en mijn opa ging vroeger in zijn jonge jaren met de trein vanuit Geertruidenberg naar Den Bosch om te werken in een schoenenfabriek. Mijn familiegeschiedenis, mijn opvoeding en mijn werkend gezinsleven is wat mij bindt aan de regio de Langstraat. Nu woon ik in Waalwijk met mijn Wollukse vrouw en twee kinderen. Ik vind dat Waalwijk zich veel meer zou moeten focussen op de regio de Langstraat in plaats van Tilburg, dat is wat ons (ver)bindt en dat moeten we koesteren en uitbouwen!\u00a0\t<\/p>\t We laten ons als gemeente Waalwijk te veel leiden door onze grote zuiderbuur Tilburg. Tuurlijk een goede buur is beter dan een verre vriend, maar er liggen ook zoveel kansen in onze relatie tot die andere historische Langstraatburen; Geertruidenberg, Dongen, Heusden en Den Bosch. Waarom kijken we zo weinig naar hen om?! Dit brengt legio kansen met zich mee op het gebied van toerisme en recreatie voor Sprang-Capelle, Waspik en uiteraard ook Waalwijk met het Schoenenkwartier. Experts onderschrijven de economische potentie van toerisme en recreatie en daarnaast ook de noodzaak tot vergroening. Deze passie en de voorliefde voor de streek maakt dat ik me verkiesbaar stel voor de gemeente Waalwijk.
