Dat is veiliger, comfortabeler en beter herkenbaar dan andere verhardingen. Dat betekent dat de weg wordt ingericht op fietsers als hoofdgebruikers. Daarbij zijn herkenbare fietsstroken nodig die veilig en comfortabel zijn. Fokke: \u201cFietsstraten ontmoedigen autoverkeer en trekken fietsverkeer aan. Het is mooi dat we Utrecht steeds meer fietsvriendelijk maken. Ondanks een gedeelde ambitie om de hoofdfietsroute te verbeteren, maakten veel inwoners zich zorgen over de uitwerking van het plan. Uit een consultatie bleek dat de geplande bomen aan de kade door de bewoners niet gewenst werden. Ook wilden de omwonenden liever twee dan \u00e9\u00e9n rijloper op de Leidseweg.\u00a0Tot slot zagen de omwonenden liever klinkers dan rood asfalt verschijnen. Fokke: \u201cAan de meeste van de wensen van de omwonenden kunnen we tegemoet gekomen, maar met een groot deel van de raad houden we wel vast aan de ambitie om consequent voor rood asfalt te blijven kiezen. Dat garandeert kwalitatief hoogwaardige fietsroutes.
