De fractie roept het college hier vandaag toe op in een raadsdebat. De oproep komt op dezelfde dag als de presentatie van een petitie met ruim 700 handtekeningen van bewoners en marktkoopmannen. D66-raadslid Lars Roodenburg: \u201cDe wijkraad, de marktkoopmannen \u00e9n de bewoners willen deze markt. Laten we ze die ruimte geven. het Stadhuis een petitie aangeboden aan wethouder Geldof (portefeuille Leidsche Rijn). De marktkoopmannen vinden dat de markt voorziet in een belangrijke behoefte en de wijkraad heeft het college daarom geadviseerd de markt te behouden. Roodenburg: \u201cIn korte tijd hebben honderden mensen hun steun gegeven voor het behoud van de markt. Deze petitie is een krachtig signaal. De markt speelde destijds in op een belangrijke behoefte, omdat er in de wijk nog een groot gebrek aan voorzieningen was. Nu winkelcentrum Terwijde bijna af is, verloopt ook die tijdelijke vergunning. Roodenburg: \u201cDe markt heeft haar bestaansrecht inmiddels bewezen. Het aanbod van de markt zal waarschijnlijk niet in het winkelcentrum terugkomen. Ook nu het winkelcentrum bijna open gaat, blijft er in Leidsche Rijn dus een grote behoefte aan een goede weekmarkt met aanvullende producten. Leidsche Rijn Centrum wordt nu gebouwd, daar is een weekmarkt voorzien, maar dat duurt nog minstens vier jaar. De weekmarkt moet blijven! Dit kan op dezelfde plek, of ergens anders in de wijk.
