Vanaf 1 januari 2015 zijn de afvalstations op zaterdagen twee uur langer geopend, tot 18:00. Daarnaast wordt vanaf het voorjaar het afvalstation aan de Tractieweg op zondag voor een dagdeel opengesteld. D66-raadslid Sanne Scholten: \u201cHet is goed dat de gemeente vanuit de inwoners denkt. Vasthouden aan ouderwetse openingstijden hoort daar niet bij. In oktober vroeg de fractie daarom om betere openingstijden van de afvalstations. Scholten: \u201cOp ons verzoek zijn de mogelijkheden voor betere openingstijden onderzocht. Juist in het weekend blijkt er veel behoefte aan ruimere openingstijden, dan zijn veel Utrechters thuis aan het klussen. Uit het onderzoek blijkt dat het dan relatief rustiger is. De resultaten van de pilot worden nauwlettend in de gaten gehouden. Na een jaar worden de nieuwe tijden ge\u00ebvalueerd. Scholten: \u201cDe gemeente is er voor haar inwoners, niet andersom. Nadat het loket Burgerzaken dankzij D66 betere openingstijden kreeg, gebeurt dat nu ook bij de afvalstations.
