bereikbaarheid in een omgeving die steeds drukker wordt. Om de puzzel op te lossen, moeten we er dan wel consequent voor kiezen om ruimte te maken voor de fiets. Ruimte voor het \u00e9\u00e9n gaat ten koste van iets anders. In het <a href=\"https:\/\/media.d66.nl\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/01\/D66-Purmerend-VKP-2026-2030.pdf\">verkiezingsprogramma<\/a> zet D66 Purmerend de fiets namelijk op de eerste plaats in het mobiliteitsbeleid. De partij ging in gesprek over de betekenis daarvan voor Purmerend. Moet de fiets altijd en overal meer ruimte krijgen? Gaan kinderen nog wel op de fiets naar school? Voor een publiek van enkele tientallen belangstellenden toonde zij aan dat cijfers over verkeersongelukken met fietsers slechts het topje van de ijsberg laten zien. De data die overheden gebruiken om beleid te maken over verkeersveiligheid zijn vaak gebaseerd op cijfers van de politie. Wanneer ook ambulancedata worden gebruikt, ontstaat een heel ander beeld. Het aantal fietsongelukken met aanzienlijk letsel is de afgelopen jaren alleen maar toegenomen. In een gemeente waar duizenden woningen worden gebouwd, komt de fiets steeds meer in de verdrukking. Hij was aangenaam verrast, zei hij. Purmerend heeft het in zich om op termijn te worden uitgeroepen tot meest fietsvriendelijke gemeente van het land, een verkiezing die door de Fietsersbond wordt georganiseerd. Daar zijn wel consequente keuzes voor nodig. Als we kiezen voor \u2018de fiets op 1\u2019, moet die lijn in alle mobiliteitskeuzes worden doorgetrokken.<br><br>Gemeenten spelen een belangrijke rol als het gaat over de veiligheid van fietsers. Er valt nog veel te winnen. In Nederland komen elke week minstens vier fietsers om het leven in het verkeer. Dat is onaanvaardbaar. De Fietsersbond roept gemeenten op om te kiezen voor 30 kilometer per uur als standaard binnen de bebouwde kom. Het Noord-Hollandse Provinciale Statenlid Emre Kanik en Tweede Kamerlid Robert van Asten vertelden vanuit hun rol bij de provincie en het Rijk hoe met gemeenten wordt samengewerkt. Zowel de rijksoverheid als de provincie wil meer mensen op de fiets krijgen. Zij ondersteunen gemeenten hierbij met stimuleringsprogramma\u2019s en subsidies. Hij wees het publiek erop dat ruimte maken voor de fiets consequenties heeft. Je kunt bijvoorbeeld meer voorrang geven aan fietsers, maar dan moet autoverkeer vaker wachten. Meer fietsvoorzieningen gaan misschien ten koste van parkeerplaatsen. Iedereen tegelijk evenveel ruimte geven, kan niet. In 2029 wordt de 100.000<sup>e<\/sup> inwoner van de gemeente verwacht. Belangrijke doorgaande wegen voor het autoverkeer kunnen echter niet of niet eenvoudig worden aangepast. Het autoverkeer komt dus vaker vast te staan en de verkeersveiligheid, ook voor fietsers, komt onder druk te staan. Zeker met alle ontwikkelingen rond snelle fietsen.<br><br>D66 Purmerend pleit daarom voor een Fietsvisie: een duidelijk plan waarmee we ruimte maken voor de fiets en Purmerend klaar maken voor de toekomst.
