block-paragraph__paragraph\"\n\t\t\t>\n\t\tHet Pesthuis is in 1661 gebouwd, net buiten de stad uit voorzorg voor een pandemie. Het heeft sinds de 17<sup>e<\/sup>\u00a0eeuw vele functies gehad, maar nooit voor de rol waarvoor het gebouwd is. Nu wordt het een plek voor horeca, kunst, wonen en werken. D66 vindt het belangrijk dat het Bio Science Park ook in de avond een levendig gebied wordt. Daarom werd eerder al aangenomen dat het Pesthuis ook na kantooruren te bezoeken is. Afgelopen zomers kregen we alvast een voorproefje wat we kunnen verwachten met zomerse hotspot De Buurt. Niet alleen bij het gebouw zelf, maar ook eromheen. In de 17<sup>e<\/sup>\u00a0eeuw dacht men nog dat ziektes door\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Miasmatheorie\">vieze lucht<\/a>\u00a0verspreid werd. Dubbele rijen hoge bomen rondom het gebouw zou de ziekte tegenhouden. Deze historische beplanting rondom het Pesthuis wordt met tientallen nieuwe bomen zoveel mogelijk weer hersteld.
