Terwijl buurgemeente Sluis ingrijpt om de torenhoge kosten voor de inwoners te drukken, besloot de raad van Hulst de andere kant op te kijken. Een motie van D66 om de tarieven, die zo&#8217;n 30% boven het landelijk gemiddelde liggen, aan te pakken werd met 15 tegen 4 stemmen weggestemd.\t<\/p>\t  <\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div\n paragraph__align--left paragraph__color--black paragraph__size--default   block-paragraph__paragraph\"\n\t\t\t>\n\t\tVoor D66 Hulst is de gang van zaken onbegrijpelijk. Fractievoorzitter De Bruijn toonde met cijfers aan dat het gemiddelde tarief in Nederland rond de \u20ac 0,36 ligt, terwijl de inwoner van Hulst gemiddeld \u20ac 0,49 betaalt. &#8220;Een verschil van dertig procent dat niet uit te leggen is,&#8221; aldus De Bruijn. &#8220;Zeker niet als je ziet dat in Amsterdam het verschil oploopt tot wel 20 cent per kWh.&#8221;<br><br><strong>Wethouder: &#8220;Hulst valt wel mee&#8221;<\/strong><br>Wethouder Depauw (Klimaat &amp; Energie) erkende dat Hulst in de top-5 van duurste gemeenten staat, maar probeerde de situatie te nuanceren door naar de buren te wijzen. Volgens de wethouder zouden de tarieven in Sluis en Terneuzen n\u00f3g hoger liggen (\u20ac 0,51). Een argument dat D66 niet overtuigde: &#8220;Dat de buren ook te duur zijn, is geen excuus om onze inwoners dan maar te laten betalen,&#8221; vindt de fractie. Bovendien haalde de werkelijkheid de wethouder rechts in: in Sluis is inmiddels een motie aangenomen om diezelfde hoge tarieven w\u00e9l aan te pakken.<br><br><strong>Opmerkelijke argumenten<\/strong><br>De argumenten van de tegenstanders in de Hulster raad varieerden van praktisch tot ronduit verbazingwekkend. Zo stelde de wethouder dat taxichauffeurs &#8220;thuis kunnen laden&#8221;, voorbijgaand aan het feit dat lang niet iedere inwoner over een eigen oprit beschikt. Het dieptepunt van het debat was echter de bijdrage van de heer Verstraeten, die de motie afwees met de stelling dat &#8220;elektrische auto&#8217;s geen toekomst hebben&#8221;.<br><br><strong>Kip-ei verhaal<\/strong><br>Ook het argument van de wethouder dat tariefverlaging &#8220;niet snel mogelijk is&#8221; omdat er in het dunbevolkte Hulst nog te weinig mensen elektrisch rijden, stuitte op onbegrip bij D66. &#8220;Dit is de wereld op zijn kop,&#8221; reageert De Bruijn. &#8220;Mensen stappen juist niet over op elektrisch rijden \u00f3mdat de kosten aan de publieke paal zo hoog zijn. Door de markt op slot te houden met slechts drie aanbieders en de prijzen hoog te laten, remt de gemeente de verduurzaming zelf af.&#8221;<br><br><strong>Alleen steun van HulstPLUS en Willaert<\/strong><br>Uiteindelijk kreeg D66 alleen steun van HulstPLUS en de heer Willaert, die aangaf de motie te steunen vanwege de &#8220;signaalwerking&#8221;. De coalitiepartijen sloten de rijen en stemden tegen. D66 Hulst legt zich er niet bij neer. &#8220;In Sluis laten ze zien dat je als gemeente w\u00e9l invloed kunt uitoefenen op de markt. Wij zullen de ontwikkelingen daar nauwgezet volgen. Zodra de prijzen daar zakken, zullen we het college in Hulst opnieuw ter verantwoording roepen.
