Niemand heeft zichzelf gemaakt (we \u2018moeten\u2019 het allemaal doen met wat ons gegeven is). We kunnen slechts dat ontwikkelen wat \u201cin ons is\u201d, waartoe we in staat zijn. Persoonlijke ambitie is daarbij leidend. En het collectieve belang stelt een kader. Net als onze democratisch vastgestelde wetten en regelgeving. Samenwerken en samenleven met wederzijds respect voor elkaars \u201canders zijn\u201d. Ruimte geven aan anderen, over en weer. Zoekend naar gemeenschappelijkheid. Die individuele ruimhartigheid is niet oneindig, zo leerde de 19<sup>e<\/sup>-eeuwse econoom\/filosoof John Stuart Mill ons: \u00a0\u201c<em>Individuele vrijheid kent zijn grenzen: het individu mag niet tot overlast voor anderen zijn.<\/em>\u201d\t<\/p>\t  <\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div\n  id=\"\"\n  class=\"wrapper  wrapper__spacing-bottom-large--30 wrapper__spacing-bottom-desktop--20 block-paragraph__paragraph\"\n\t\t\t>\n\t\tVerschillen tussen mensen zijn waardevol voor de verrijking van het geheel en vaak functioneel (complementariteit). Tegelijkertijd zijn die verschillen vaak ook lastig of vormen ze een belemmering (onbegrip). Op papier zijn er gelijke kansen voor iedereen, in de praktijk blijkt dit niet altijd het geval. En zien we \u2018anders\u2019 als vreemd voordat we er de waarde van inzien. Diversiteit in de teams, organisaties en de samenleving geeft dus ook \u2018gedoe\u2019. Maar dat gedoe, kunnen we overwinnen met een helder gedeeld doel voor ogen. Een inclusieve samenleving. Toegankelijk. Met respect voor de persoonlijke waardigheid van individuen. Een samenleving waarin een ieder die dat wenst\u00a0<em>volwaardig<\/em>\u00a0deelneemt. Participatie zonder discriminatie. Daar staat D66 voor.<br><br>Diversiteit is het begrip dat verscheidenheid in culturele en etnische achtergrond van mensen in onze samenleving aanduidt. D66 Hilversum wenst de vrije deelname van iedereen aan de maatschappij te verbeteren door belemmeringen om te participeren weg te nemen. En door wederzijdse kennis en begrip tussen diverse groepen van bewoners te vergroten. D66 gelooft niet dat we op een\u00a0<em>radicale<\/em>\u00a0manier (zoals bijvoorbeeld de politieke beweging Bijeen nu ook in Hilversum voorstaat) een inclusieve samenleving kunnen forceren. Je bewijst de samenleving van merendeels goedwillenden geen dienst door mensen tegen elkaar op te zetten, tegenstellingen te vergroten (zoals rond het Sinterklaasfeest) of door bestuurders en volksvertegenwoordigers verdacht te maken (het pedante \u201cSchaam je rot\u201d wat ook de SP steeds makkelijk poneert). De stap van radicaal naar rabiaat is een kleine. Extremisme is de vijand van de tolerantie. En dat vurig doch vreedzaam samenleven streven we als sociaalliberale democraten nu net na.<br><br>In november 2018 heeft D66 daarom het initiatief genomen om tot een Diversiteitsraad te komen. Geen \u2018hoog-over\u2019 beleidsvoorbereiders. Geen hoogdravende analyses en adviezen, die ergens op een bureau belanden. Maar een praktisch ingestelde groep diverse mensen die culturele inclusiviteit helpen bevorderen. Ons voorstel wordt breed gesteund door de gemeenteraad (CDA en CU hadden bedenkingen) . Het College heeft met diverse maatschappelijke organisaties en ge\u00efnteresseerde personen rondetafelgesprekken gehouden. En haar licht opgestoken bij andere gemeenten die een vergelijkbare diversiteitsraad hebben.<br><br>Deze voorbereidingen hebben nu geresulteerd in een voorstel om deze praktische diversiteitsraad daadwerkelijk in te stellen. Dit voorjaar vond de gemeenteraad het voorstel nog onvoldoende concreet. D66 heeft achter de schermen gewerkt aan een beter voorstel, dat in het najaar van dit jaar nader besproken zal worden. Vanuit het college wordt onze wethouder Wimar Jaeger de trekker van de Diversiteitsraad.<br><br>Het college van B&amp;W heeft tot vreugde van D66 eveneens besloten om de Charter Diversiteit te ondertekenen (zie:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/diversiteitinbedrijf.nl\/charter-diversiteit-wat-is-het\/\">https:\/\/diversiteitinbedrijf.nl\/charter-diversiteit-wat-is-het\/<\/a>). Het ondertekenmoment zal op 12 september 2019 in het raadhuis van Hilversum plaatsvinden. Ook op deze wijze onderschrijft Hilversum het belang van een inclusieve samenleving. Waarin verschillen worden gevierd en tegenstellingen worden overbrugd.
