De initiatiefnemers willen dat abortus wordt opgenomen in het Europees Verdrag voor de Rechten van de Mens. Ook uit Nederland kwamen er meer dan 34.000 handtekeningen. E\u00e9n van die handtekeningen kwam van D66-Europarlementari\u00ebr Raquel Garc\u00eda Hermida-van der Walle, die zich vanuit het Europees Parlement inzet voor vrouwenrechten. \t<\/p>\t burgerinitiatief. Garc\u00eda Hermida-van der Walle steunt het voorstel en nam eerder het initiatief tot een stemming in het Europees Parlement met dezelfde strekking. Een brede meerderheid van het Europees Parlement steunde het voorstel. Garc\u00eda Hermida-van der Walle: &#8220;Baas in eigen buik is een mensenrecht. En het verbieden van abortus zorgt niet voor minder abortussen, maar voor onveilige abortussen. Het Europees Parlement staat falikant achter het burgerinitiatief. De Europeanen ook.
