Er is groene en blauwe natuur, er is ruimte voor iedereen, letterlijk en figuurlijk want in deze hechte gemeenschap kent iedereen elkaar, maar laat iedereen elkaar vrij.<br><br>Maar er zijn grote zorgen bij de inwoners want de leefbaarheid staat op het spel. Sinds de verkoop van camping de Eenhoorn dreigt onomkeerbare aantasting van de leefbaarheid omdat de huidige eigenaar plannen heeft om op het campingterrein tussen de 90 en de 130 vakantiewoningen te bouwen die doorverkocht gaan worden om te verhuren.<br><br>Dit heeft tot gevolg dat het hele jaar door, zomer \u00e9n winter, zeven dagen per week vakantieverkeer van en naar het vakantiepark zal rijden. Dit veroorzaakt een stijging van het aantal verkeersbewegingen waarvan voorzichtige schattingen oplopen tot 40.000 per jaar. Dit verkeer moet allemaal door de smalle lintbebouwing van Schardam en Etersheim. Dit gaat niet alleen de rust en de verkeersveiligheid ernstig in gevaar brengen, maar ook het beschermde Natura 2000 gebied waar polder de Zeevang aan grenst en het Natuurnetwerk Nederland (NNN) landschap waar de polder Zeevang deel van uitmaakt.<br><br>Op veel plaatsen in Nederland vinden gelijksoortige ontwikkelingen plaats en overal zien inwoners hun leefomgeving aangetast worden. Regelmatig slagen inwoners erin samen met het gemeentebestuur deze ongewenste ontwikkelingen een halt toe te roepen en trekt de gemeente alle registers open om binnen de wettelijke kaders een dergelijke aantasting van de leefbaarheid te stoppen.<br><br>Het gemeentebestuur van Edam-Volendam moet daarom alles op alles zetten om de noodkreet van inwoners te ondersteunen. De noodkreet die overduidelijk en op originele wijze zichtbaar is gemaakt door middel van talloze borden langs de bebouwing van Schardam. Dit kan de gemeente doen door maatregelen te nemen die de businesscase van de ondernemer onaantrekkelijk maken door verponding (het doorverkopen voor verhuur) uit te sluiten. Een andere reden voor het gemeentebestuur om terughoudend te zijn met het verlenen van een omgevingsvergunning kan op basis van de bescherming van het Natura 2000 NNN gebied.
